Institutional Leadership & Initiatives

Braswell Arts Center (Basel, Switzerland)

Founder & Artistic Director
Founded in 2017, the Braswell Arts Center is a multidisciplinary arts space dedicated to dance training, artistic creation, and collaborative exchange. Under Armando’s leadership, the center has developed into a hub for professional and pre-professional dancers, independent artists, and international collaborators. His role encompasses artistic direction, program development, faculty coordination, partnerships, and the overall vision and growth of the institution.

Braswell Arts Association

Founder & Director
Established in 2019, the Braswell Arts Association is a non-profit organization created to support emerging and established artists through education, creation, and international exchange. The association works alongside the Braswell Arts Center to facilitate outreach programs, cultural initiatives, and artist support structures.


Festivals & Large-Scale Programs

Dance Basel Festival

Founder & Artistic Director
Dance Basel Festival was conceived as a platform for contemporary dance performance, education, and dialogue within the Basel region. Armando led the artistic vision, programming, and coordination of the festival, working with artists, institutions, and community partners to create accessible, high-quality dance experiences.

Dance Abroad / Brooklyn to Basel

Founder & Artistic Director
Dance Abroad and its cultural exchange program, Brooklyn to Basel, connect young dancers and artists across international contexts. These initiatives focus on exposure, professional development, and cross-cultural learning, offering participants the opportunity to engage with new artistic environments and networks.


Interdisciplinary & Installation Projects

Armando’s interdisciplinary projects explore the intersection of movement, sound, technology, and research, often in collaboration with composers, visual artists, photographers, and scientists.

Selected works include:

  • On the Run (2011)
    Movement and sound installation presented at the Kunst im Klub Festival, Stuttgart.

  • Pacemaker//Emotion (2012)
    Kinetic sculpture and performance installation combining dance, music, and visual media.

  • Heart (2013)
    An interdisciplinary installation integrating movement, sound, and scientific research.

  • Hueman (2015)
    Installation project presented at the Colours Festival, Stuttgart, exploring the relationship between physical movement, technology, and human perception.


Special Collaborations & Commissions

Armando has contributed to a range of special projects and commissions across institutional, museum, and public contexts. These include performance and rehearsal direction for Art Basel Parcours, museum-based projects at Kunstmuseum Basel, and collaborations with cultural and corporate partners on site-specific and interdisciplinary works. In 2015, his choreographic work Excuse was presented at the Swiss Pavilion of Expo Milano 2015 (World Expo Milan), as part of the pavilion’s curated cultural program.


Community & Outreach Projects

Alongside artistic and institutional initiatives, Armando has developed and led numerous community-focused programs aimed at accessibility and education. These include outreach performances through the Gauthier Dance Mobil Program, youth-focused initiatives such as BAC Kids, and collaborative programs designed to bring dance into non-traditional spaces including schools, hospitals, and community centers.


Across all projects, Armando Braswell’s work is guided by a belief in collaboration, responsibility, and the transformative potential of the arts within both professional and public spheres.
