Let’s Do the Time Warp Again! MUKS Workshops
A Night of Dance, Monsters, and Magic at MUKS – Museumsnacht Basel 2025
On January 17, 2025, the MUKS – Museum Kultur & Spiel Riehen transformed into a haven of playful fright and delight as part of Museumsnacht Basel. Amidst the museum's "Monsters" exhibition, I had the pleasure of leading a series of dance workshops that brought the iconic "Time Warp" from The Rocky Horror Picture Show to life.
The "Monsters" exhibition at MUKS delves into the creatures that haunt our imaginations, from folklore to pop culture. Set in a staged basement landscape, visitors encounter spooky beings lurking in shadows and jars, challenging them to confront and befriend their fears.
Throughout the evening, at 19:00, 20:00, 21:00, 22:30, and 23:30, participants of all ages joined me to learn the "Time Warp" dance. The energy was electric as we stepped to the left, jumped to the right, and embraced the quirky fun of the choreography. The workshops were a hit, blending dance, theater, and a touch of the bizarre, perfectly complementing the museum's theme.
Museumsnacht Basel is a city-wide celebration where museums open their doors late into the night, offering unique programs and experiences. At MUKS, the combination of the "Monsters" exhibition and the "Time Warp" dance workshops created an unforgettable experience that delighted and spooked in equal measure.
Thank you to the MUKS team for hosting this event and to all the enthusiastic participants who danced the night away. It was a joy to see so many smiling faces embracing the spirit of the evening.
Speaker at the Global Entrepreneurship Week in Basel
This November, Basel lit up with entrepreneurial energy as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW)—a global celebration of innovation, startups, and visionary thinking. I was deeply honored to contribute to this incredible week, not only by delivering the closing speech at the event, but also by presenting a performance by the talented dancers of our Braswell Arts Center.
It was a powerful reminder that art belongs in every room where the future is being built.
The Global Entrepreneurship Week in Basel, brought together leaders, creatives, business minds, and social innovators. The theme of the week centered around resilience, inclusion, and the future of entrepreneurship—themes that resonated strongly with my own journey as an artist and founder.
As the final speaker of the forum, I had the opportunity to reflect on what entrepreneurship looks like through the lens of the arts: the risks we take as creatives, the resilience it takes to keep creating, and the deep community work that goes into building something sustainable from the ground up.
I spoke about founding the Braswell Arts Center—not just as a dance studio, but as a social impact space, a home for diversity, and a platform for youth empowerment. Entrepreneurship, for me, has always meant using creativity to solve problems and serve others.
What made this evening even more meaningful was the performance by our Braswell Arts Center dancers. These young artists—some of whom are already preparing for international careers—took the stage with strength, presence, and intention.
The piece they performed was created specifically for this forum, inspired by the spirit of innovation and transformation. It was modern, emotional, and deeply human. Their performance reminded everyone in the room that creativity is not just a skill—it’s a language. One that speaks across industries and borders.
Seeing these dancers share their artistry with a room full of global thinkers and entrepreneurs made me proud beyond words. They are not only the future of dance—they are the future of leadership, resilience, and creative power.
Being part of GEW Basel was more than a speaking opportunity—it was a chance to show how essential artists are to conversations about progress. Creativity is not a side story in the world of entrepreneurship. It’s central.
My hope is that we continue to build bridges between the arts and entrepreneurship—because when we do, we build smarter, kinder, and more connected communities.
A huge thank you to the Global Entrepreneurship Week Basel team, the organizers of the Global Entrepreneurship Forum, and everyone who attended. Thank you to my incredible dancers for showing up and showing out with your hearts wide open. And thank you to the wider Basel community for continuing to believe in the power of movement, voice, and vision.
Celebrating 20 Years of Crescenda — Dance, Voice, and Empowerment
On a beautiful evening in Basel, I had the honor of witnessing something truly special: our Braswell Arts Center Pre-Professional dancers took the stage at the 20-year celebration of Crescenda, and my wife, Lisa Braswell, was invited as one of the keynote speakers.
It was a moment where art and activism, community and culture, movement and message, all came together in powerful harmony.
For those who may not know, Crescenda is a powerhouse of purpose in Basel—a nonprofit organization that has spent the last two decades empowering migrant women entrepreneurs. Through mentorship, training, and community, they provide the tools needed for these women to develop and launch businesses, build confidence, and thrive in Swiss society. Lisa is a proud graduate.
Our Pre-Professional Program dancers were invited to perform as part of the evening’s program, and I could not have been prouder of what they brought to that stage. We choreographed a new piece inspired by the stories of the women who have been impacted by Crescenda. They danced not only for themselves, but in honor of all the women whose stories helped build the foundation of Crescenda.
One of the most moving parts of the evening was seeing Lisa, my wife and co-creator in life and work, stand before the audience and share her own journey.
As an American woman living and working in Switzerland, Lisa offered a perspective that was deeply relatable to many in the room. She spoke not only of her personal experience navigating identity, culture, and entrepreneurship, but also of the power of community—how being supported, believed in, and welcomed can change the course of a life.
Her speech was met with warm applause and heartfelt reactions. As her husband, I stood in the back of the room just beaming with pride.
To have our dancers participate and to see Lisa honored in this way was a full-circle moment. This is what it means to build bridges—not just across cultures, but across generations and art forms too.
A heartfelt thank you to Crescenda for 20 years of transformative work and for including us in this celebration. And of course, thank you to our Pre-Professional dancers, who brought everything they had to the stage.
This is why we do what we do.
This is how we keep Basel moving.
Dancing in Color: Performing at the Beyeler Ball 2024
On October 26, 2024, I had the incredible honor of performing at the Beyeler Ball, a magical evening hosted by the Fondation Beyeler in celebration of the exhibition “Matisse – Invitation to the Voyage.” It was one of those cool moments where art, music, fashion, and performance truly came together to create something unforgettable.
From the moment you stepped into the museum, the atmosphere was electric. Inspired by Matisse’s bold colors, elegant lines, and spirit of joyful exploration, the space was transformed into a living, breathing canvas. Every detail was curated to celebrate the French master's belief that "color was a liberation." And on this night, we all felt it.
For this special evening, I was proud to present a new work in collaboration with Guiliana Sollami—an artist and dancer I deeply respect—and the always electrifying DJ Stimulus. We approached this piece not only as performers but as interpreters of Matisse’s artistic philosophy.
The performance was designed as an immersive experience, unfolding organically in the heart of the museum. We didn’t want to merely entertain—we wanted to embody the spirit of Matisse, where dance becomes color, movement becomes brushstroke, and the audience becomes part of the painting.
There were no traditional stage lights, no black box—the museum itself became our stage. Our choreography responded to the space, the artwork, and the music in real time, allowing for an exchange between us and the audience that felt spontaneous and alive.
In the spirit of the exhibition’s title, "Invitation to the Voyage," the choreography was a journey—a meditation on freedom, joy, sensuality, and discovery. I wanted every gesture to feel like a brushstroke. Every pause like the moment before inspiration strikes.
Beyond the performance itself, the evening was an artistic celebration of the highest caliber. The guests arrived in vibrant, color-themed attire, inspired by Matisse’s palette. There was live music, exquisite cuisine, and curated surprises around every corner—from interactive art installations to moments of quiet reflection in the galleries.
I want to thank the Fondation Beyeler for the invitation and for believing in the power of live performance as part of the museum experience. Thank you to my brilliant collaborators, Guiliana and DJ Stimulus, for your trust, creativity, and fearlessness. And thank you to everyone who attended the ball and opened their hearts to what we created that night.
The Beyeler Ball reminded me of the kind of art I want to make—art that is bold, elegant, and open. Art that invites people on a journey.
Open Door Morath
An Amazing Night at Open Door at Morath!
What an incredible event last night at Open Door at Morath! Julian Nicosia and I had the pleasure of performing "ECHO," a piece I created this year for the former director of Kunstmuseum Basel. The energy was electrifying, and the audience's enthusiasm made it even more special.

Brooklyn to Basel Cultural Exchange
From Brooklyn to Basel: A Cultural Exchange Project
I am excited to share about my latest project, "From Brooklyn to Basel." This initiative, hosted by the Braswell Arts Center, is more than just a cultural exchange; it represents a vision to create lasting impact and foster opportunities for children from diverse backgrounds. Through travel and the arts, we aim to break geographical barriers and provide transformative experiences, mentorship, and cultural immersion for young individuals. Together with my first dance teacher, Marcella Jones, we brought 15 students from PATHS High School in Brooklyn to Basel, Switzerland. It was inspiring for these kids to see someone from their neighborhood make a life for himself in Europe.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us in this journey. Your contributions help us continue empowering these talented young dancers to pursue their dreams.
For more information and to support future exchanges, visit Brooklyn to Basel.

The journey of creating "Mary" has been a soulful collaboration with Rehearsal Director Roderick R. George at my side. His passion, dedication, and creative approach have truly brought "Mary" to life, enabling us to deliver a performance that promises to be unforgettable.
The heart of "Mary" is the captivating music composed by Zen Jefferson. He creates an immersive auditory experience that intertwines seamlessly with the narrative of "Mary."
Returning to LaGuardia High School with "Mary" is an experience that's incredibly special to me. It's here where my artistic journey began, where I first dared to dream, and where those dreams were nurtured. Coming back as an adult, I carry with me a profound sense of gratitude, pride, and excitement to share this piece of my heart with the school that has given me so much.

Here is a video by current dancer and "Inside Ballet Theater Basel" team member, Rubén Bañol Herrera:
An inside look into the Dancelab 8 production at Theater Basel. Here the dancers are allowed to create and present their own choreographies. The realization of your own choreographic works is an important experience for young artists on the way to creative maturity. The DanceLab takes this circumstance into account and offers dancers of the ensemble the opportunity to experiment with choreography. Abstract movement studies, associative motion pictures or short, moving stories can emerge. To what extent the young choreographers want to break with old viewing habits or refer to traditions or cultural prescriptions in their approximately ten-minute plays is left to them themselves. This creates a kaleidoscope of contemporary creative thought, ranging from first-time works to tried-and-tested further developments to remarkable experiments, offering the audience a surprising and varied dance evening.

Performance at Munsterplatz
Come and see my latest creation for the Basel Mission at a beautiful open air stage in Munsterplatz!!! The theme of the festival is hope... So I took the same theme to inspire a quirky piece with two dancers and two musicians.
From 8 to 14 June 2015 Mission celebrates 21 birthday of its Basel Mission with guests and contributions from four continents. The highlight of the anniversary week is a major international festival on Sunday, June 14 at the Münsterplatz in Basel. A varied program with music, market stalls, culinary delights and a child-friendly program to make the festival an experience for the whole family.
